Sequoyah 2, Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee.

The Sequoyah 2 routine refueling outage ran 2 days longer than the planned 29 days, lasting from Oct 3, 2026 to Nov 2, 2026. The 31 day outage is the ninth-longest among the unit's 19 tracked refuels, running 16.6 days below the historical average of 47.6 days for 18 prior refuels. The unit was back at full power (99%) as of the NRC report of Nov 5, 2026.

31 days outage · 2 days past schedule · 1,126 MW back at full power

After 31 days offline for its Fall 2026 refueling outage, Sequoyah 2 reached full power on Nov 5, 2026. The outage began on Oct 3, 2026. The reactor was critical by the NRC's Nov 3, 2026 report. First power to full power took 2 days.

The published schedule had it at 29 days (Oct 2, 2026 to Oct 31, 2026), so the actual ran 2 days longer than planned.

The outage ran about 17 days shorter than the unit's 18-cycle average of 47.6 days.

Counting the 31 days offline and the climb back to full power, the outage cost roughly 878,000 MWh of generation, worth approximately $35 million at recent wholesale prices.

Across the U.S. fleet of 94 commercial reactors, today's combined capacity factor is 81.4% (12 units currently refueling, 3 units in unscheduled outages), below the 88.0% baseline for this month over the past five years. At the same site, Sequoyah 1 is running at full power. Peach Bottom 2, Callaway, Cooper, and Point Beach 1 also completed refueling outages within the past week.

Sequoyah 2 is a 1,126-MW Westinghouse 4-loop PWR operated by Tennessee Valley Authority (commercial operation since 1982). At full power, it supplies enough electricity for roughly 901,000 homes. The utility operates both units at this site and 5 more at 2 other U.S. plants. Its operating license runs through 2041 (renewed in 2015). The unit ran at a 49.6% capacity factor in 2025, with some downtime through the year.
